BSEC-URTA Contributed to Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Freight Connectivity in Asia

BSEC-URTA participated in the SIPA Regional Dialogue on Policy Implementation for Sustainable and Resilient Freight Connectivity in Central and Southeast Asia, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan and jointly organized by the International Transport Forum (ITF) and UN ESCAP.
The event brought together government representatives, international organizations and development partners to discuss how regional freight transport policies can be translated into concrete implementation measures. The discussions marked an important milestone for the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA), shifting the focus from developing policy pathways to implementing them through stronger regional cooperation and practical action.
During the dialogue, Ms. Elif Nuhoglu delivered a presentation entitled “Strengthening Sustainable and Resilient Freight Connectivity: BSEC-URTA’s Role as a Regional Implementation Partner Bridging Central & Southeast Asia with Europe.” The presentation highlighted the strategic role of the Black Sea region as a gateway between Asia and Europe and emphasized that sustainable connectivity requires not only investments in transport infrastructure, but also effective facilitation measures.
Ms. Nuhoglu underlined the importance of harmonized customs procedures, joint border controls, digitalization of transport documents and integrated border management solutions in improving corridor performance and reducing operational bottlenecks. BSEC-URTA also presented its contribution to corridor performance monitoring, public-private dialogue and the development of practical recommendations based on real transport operations.
The discussions provided an opportunity to exchange experiences from across Central and Southeast Asia and to explore how stronger regional cooperation can contribute to more sustainable, resilient and efficient freight transport networks. As a regional implementation partner, BSEC-URTA remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen connectivity between Asia, the Black Sea region and Europe through both infrastructure development and transport facilitation measures.
BSEC-URTA extends its sincere appreciation to UN ESCAP and the International Transport Forum (ITF) for providing a valuable platform for dialogue and cooperation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with regional and international partners to advance sustainable, resilient and efficient freight connectivity across Asia, the Black Sea region and Europe.
