On 14 January 2025, BSEC-URTA visits key European Union Stakeholders in Brussels

Following its Stategic Objectives, BSEC-URTA continues to address national and international authorites on critical issues in the BSEC region, focusing on recognition of the profession of international driver of goods and passenger vehicles, visa and duration of stay in the Schengen area as well as on problems related to border crossings.
In this regard on 14 January 2025 a BSEC-URTA delegation composed of President Eduart Kasa, Deputy President Olivera Miovska, IRU Vice President Iro Doumani, OFAE President Apostolos Kenanidis, BSEC-URTA Secretary General Mehmet Uylukcu and Senior Advisor Adrian Albu engaged key leaders from the European Parliament and the European Commission and briefed on the crucial role played by the road transport of goods in the international trade and social life of EU member states.
BSEC-URTA delegation met HE Elissavet Vozemberg, Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament and Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament and HE Apostolos Tzitzicostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Tranport and Tourism and briefed the high representatives of European Union on encountered problems of road transport industry from the BSEC region at the EU borders as well as on possible solutions which could be implemented in a true public-private partnership.

Following the explanations of BSEC-URTA delegation both high rank officials of EU admitted that the international road transport driver profession should be recognised as a profession with similar rights as the other modes of transport operators have in regard travel and stay on the territory of EU and stated that they support BSEC-URTA endeavours for such recognition.
HE Elissavet Vosemberg extended on invitation to BSEC-URTA for an address and hearing during a session of the European Parliament and HE Apostolos Tzitzicostas promised an exchange of views in regard driver visas and travel and stay rights of vehicles crews with his colleague HE Magnus Brunner, Commissioner Internal Affairs and Migration of EU.
In order to be follow up, BSEC-URTA was requested to provide comprehensive information to both offices on border crossing problems such as hight waiting times, infrastructure and procedures impending the smooth passage of vehicles over the EU borders.
