BSEC-URTA and ESPORG Signed Strategic Cooperation Agreement for Drivers’ Welfare and Safe Parking

The 47th General Assembly of BSEC-URTA, held in Thessaloniki, Greece, also marked an important milestone for international road transport cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BSEC-URTA and the European Secure Parking Organisation (ESPORG).

The agreement reflects a common vision shared by both organizations: improving the wellbeing, safety, dignity and working conditions of professional drivers while strengthening secure and sustainable transport infrastructure across Europe and the Black Sea region.

Within the framework of the Memorandum, BSEC-URTA and ESPORG agreed to cooperate on:

  • development of Safe and Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPAs),
  • drivers’ wellbeing and professional conditions,
  • gender-sensitive transport infrastructure,
  • road safety,
  • green and sustainable parking initiatives,
  • training and attractiveness of the driver profession,
  • and digital projects such as the development of an “App for Drivers.”

The cooperation also foresees:

  • exchange of best practices,
  • joint projects and events,
  • mutual participation in working groups,
  • and closer coordination on transport corridor developments across Europe and the BSEC region.

The Memorandum was signed by ESPORG General Manager Mr. Dirk Penasse and BSEC-URTA representatives during the Spring Events in Thessaloniki as a strong message that transport connectivity must also prioritize the human side of logistics — the drivers themselves.

Participants emphasized that professional drivers are one of the most strategic components of global supply chains and that safe parking, decent working conditions and respect for drivers are no longer optional, but essential elements for the sustainability of international transport.

The cooperation between BSEC-URTA and ESPORG also highlights the growing importance of digitalization and modern infrastructure in road transport operations. Both organizations stressed that future transport systems must combine security, smart technologies and human-centered approaches.

BSEC-URTA highly appreciates ESPORG’s valuable contribution to international road transport and believes that this cooperation will create important opportunities for safer, smarter and more sustainable logistics operations across the wider Black Sea region and Europe.
