Flag is transferring from Albania to Armenia: BSEC-URTA Secretary General Voiced the problems of International Road Transporters to the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs

48th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States held online on 28 June 2024.

During the meeting, BSEC-URTA Secretary General Mehmet Uylukcu participated and delivered a speech on behalf of BSEC-URTA.

Firstly, Mr. Uylukcu shared the gratitude of the Union for the Albanian successful chairmanship and wished success to Armenia for their chairmanship in the next half of 2024. 

Mr. Uylukcu underlined the urgent need for practical solutions to border crossing problems in the BSEC region, emphasizing the Batrovci / Serbia-Bajakova / Croatia Border Crossing Points, an essential transit gate in the BSEC region witnessing constant over waiting times of trucks. 

The Secretary-General invited the member countries urgently to solve driver visa problems, a chain tied to the drivers to continue their profession and becoming a barrier to trade development within the BSEC region.

Mehmet Uylukcu shared the direction and focus of the Union, firstly, the digitalization of transport documents, namely e-CMR, e-TIR, and e-visa. 

The Secretary-General provided information on the BSEC Permit system, which is a crucial tool that facilitates the transportation and trade flow in the BSEC region. Mr. Uylukcu reaffirmed BSEC-URTA’s call for Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Greece to become members of the BSEC Permit system in order to strengthen the logistics chain in the BSEC region. This cooperation is fostered by BSEC PERMIS, BSEC-URTA, and IRU.
