PABSEC and BSEC-URTA United for Enhanced Trade and Transportation in the BSEC region

In a significant development fostering regional collaboration, the secretaries of two organizations, PABSEC (Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation) and BSEC-URTA, convened on September 19, 2023. The meeting at 11:00 AM was marked by fruitful discussions and a commitment to strengthening ties between these influential institutions.
The gathering served as a preparatory session for the forthcoming event in Baku, Azerbaijan, scheduled for October 27 to 29, where the 42nd meeting of the BSEC-URTA General Assembly will take place. During this event, delegates from both organizations will visit the Alat port and Free Zone in Baku, emphasizing the strategic importance of this occasion. Crucial topics were discussed during the meeting, including cooperation between institutions and the adverse effects of delays experienced at all BSEC border gates on trade and transportation. Delegations furthermore discussed a few good examples and cooperation applied by the BSEC countries as the “One Stop Shop” concept in the BSEC border crossing points, which began to flourish through the collaboration of neighboring BSEC countries.
As a solution-oriented outcome, both institutions have jointly decided to organize an event in the first half of 2024 to reduce waiting periods at border gates, thereby facilitating smoother trade and transportation across the Black Sea region.
Moreover, BSEC-URTA expressed gratitude for the Secretary General’s participation in the upcoming general assembly in Baku. It was emphasized that this assembly would serve as a platform to address numerous issues concerning the development of the middle corridor and transportation in the region, reflecting the commitment of both BSEC-URTA and PABSEC to fostering economic growth and cooperation in the Black Sea region.
This meeting between PABSEC and BSEC-URTA representatives underscores the significance of collaboration among international organizations and the determination to address trade and transportation challenges for the region’s betterment.
As BSEC-URTA International Secretariat, we would like to express our gratitude to the PABSEC Secretary General, His Excellency Mr. Asaf Hujiyev, and the PABSEC team for supporting the development of logistic solid chains in the BSEC region.
