BSEC-URTA Working Party on Passenger Transport: A New Era for Regional Integration

The first meeting of the BSEC-URTA Working Party on Passenger Transport, established following the decision of the 45th BSEC-URTA General Assembly, emphasized the strategic importance of passenger mobility for regional integration, economic growth, and social inclusivity in the BSEC region. The Working Party identified major challenges such as outdated border procedures, fragmented regulations, driver shortages, and low passenger demand, while also underlining the urgent need for digital transformation and regulatory harmonization. Best practices from the EU and research supported by the University of Geneva were presented as guiding examples for the modernization of passenger transport systems.

The meeting also featured a case study from Serbia, presented by Ms. Vesna Djordjevic, Senior Advisor at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighting pressing issues such as border delays, driver shortages, and the upcoming EU Entry/Exit System. The Working Party reaffirmed its commitment to addressing these bottlenecks collectively and decided to nominate Ms. Djordjevic as its first President, pending approval by the BSEC-URTA Management Council.

BSEC-URTA members gathered under the supervision of BSEC-URTA Secretary General Mehmet Uylukcu, with the participation of distinguished guests from BSEC PERMIS, PABSEC, TRACECA, and leading figures in passenger transport such as Mrs. Asli Calik, Vice President of IRU.

BSEC-URTA extends its sincere gratitude to its members and esteemed guests for their valuable contributions.
