BSEC Countries Gather for Road Transport Facilitation
On 6 November 2024, the Steering Committee on Facilitating Road Transport of Goods in the BSEC Region convened virtually. Adrian Albu, Senior Advisor of BSEC-URTA, represented the organization alongside esteemed representatives from the Ministries of Transport.
During the meeting, Adrian Albu emphasized the need for governments to implement essential facilitation tools, including:
– Extending the geographical coverage of the BSEC permit, particularly with Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Greece.
– Utilizing a one-stop shop for custom border crossings and other facilitation tools in the BSEC region.
– Eliminating Bulgaria’s disinfection requirement for BSEC trucks.
– Enhancing digitalization through e-CMR, e-TIR, and e-visas, particularly e-Schengen visas.
Adrian Albu urged national transport authorities to collaborate with the ILO to recognize international drivers and create a Road Man Driver Identity Document to aid international road transport.
In line with BSEC-URTA’s motto, the BSEC-URTA family members contributed to the meeting. The IRU shared insights on e-CMR, while the UND presented information about the efficient Ro-Pax line between Türkiye and Romania, which benefits from the exemplary work and infrastructure of the Karasu and Constanța ports and the practical efforts of the two countries’ customs personnel. Additionally, UNTRR highlighted the Green Lanes for the expedited processes for pre-declared TIR applications at the Romania border crossings with Ukraine and Moldova. AIRCUZ drew attention to improvements in transportation in Uzbekistan.
