BSEC-URTA Celebrates 25 Years of Moving the Region Forward

BSEC-URTA marked its 25th anniversary at its 48th General Assembly in Istanbul on 24 October 2026, bringing together member associations, public authorities and international organisations. The occasion celebrated a quarter century of cooperation and renewed a shared commitment to make international road transport more efficient, reliable and accessible across the region.
The challenges that brought BSEC-URTA’s members together 25 years ago remain urgent. Trucks still wait for days at border crossings, even as the importance of logistics to global supply chains has become clearer than ever. Every prolonged wait affects drivers, businesses, production and trade. This continuing challenge shows why BSEC-URTA’s work matters: countries and transport operators need a place to identify common problems and pursue practical solutions together.
Participants discussed border delays, the growing importance of road transport along Middle Eastern corridors and the strategic role of the TIR system and IRU. Schengen visas for professional drivers and the implications of the Entry/Exit System (EES) were also recognised as shared concerns. The strongest message from the meeting was a commitment to work together: member associations, IRU and public authorities must coordinate their efforts to turn these concerns into workable solutions.
The General Assembly also welcomed iLINK and Mobiliz as new Associate Members from 1 January 2027. Their expertise will add fresh momentum to BSEC-URTA’s work on digital transport documents and more connected logistics.
We congratulate Mrs. Olivera Miovska on her appointment as Deputy President and Mr. Alexandru Daniel Popa and Mr. Iulian Postica on their appointments as Vice Presidents for 2027–2028. We thank them for standing alongside BSEC-URTA and wish them every success in their roles.
At the invitation of Mr Sanjar Pulatov, Chairman of AIRCUZ, members look forward to continuing this spirit of cooperation at the next General Assembly in May 2027. We sincerely thank Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Ministry of Trade, IRU, our hosts TOBB, TOBBUND and UND, and every guest and member who joined us for this anniversary.
For 25 years, BSEC-URTA has helped connect people, economies and continents through cooperation in road transport. May the years ahead bring smoother borders, stronger supply chains and closer ties among our countries—contributing to prosperity and peace across the region.
Here’s to the next 25 years of BSEC-URTA.
