BSEC-URTA International Secretariat Holds Meeting with PABSEC Secretary General
The BSEC-URTA International Secretariat paid a visit to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), where it met with Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of PABSEC, and representatives of the PABSEC International Secretariat to exchange views on regional connectivity, trade and transport facilitation, and common challenges affecting international road transport across the BSEC region.
The meeting focused on the Middle Corridor, cross-border transport and customs procedures, and the mobility of professional truck drivers, with particular attention to the practical challenges arising from visa requirements and the 90/180-day rule. BSEC-URTA shared sectoral data, field experience and its ongoing engagement with relevant European institutions on professional driver mobility.
The participants emphasised that the effective functioning of transport corridors depends not only on infrastructure and physical capacity, but also on the ability of professional drivers to move efficiently across borders. In this regard, visa and mobility restrictions were discussed in terms of their implications for international transport operations, trade flows and regional connectivity.
The meeting further underlined the importance of continued cooperation between BSEC-URTA and PABSEC in promoting efficient, sustainable and resilient transport connectivity across the Black Sea region.
